For a major part of a privately-funded playground improvement project at a public school in Lexington, Oldenburg Architecture designed a free-standing structure for performances, outdoor instruction, and sheltered eating. Originally envisioned as a “shade structure” to provide outdoor space for kids to play out of the sun, the building has become an outdoor focal point for the school. The grassy berm and the peastone area provide comfortable places to sit on the ground.
